BRIDGIT: Goddess of Fire and Health, Ireland

In Kildare, ancient Ireland, when Celts worshipped goddesses, only women kindled Brigid’s sacred fire, opening the door to spring’s awakening. Triune moon goddess – waxing, full, waning – she holds the revolving of the seasons and tends the triple fires of healing, poetry and smithcraft. The cow, her sacred animal, accompanies her to healing waters in green meadows.

“Brigid has been with me since I was a young girl. My mother told me that in her mother’s time, one daughter was named Brigid, and on Brigid’s Feast Day, the daughter named Brigid would stand outside the family house and knock on the door. The family would invite her in and she would bless the house.”
