INANNA: Goddess of Heaven and Earth, Sumer

In Mesopotamia, for 5000 years, Inanna was the queen of heaven and earth. She was the morning and evening star- all life glowed in her sensual pleasure.

Inanna dared to flaunt her older sister Ereshkigal, queen of the underground, who beat and hung her rotting flesh on a peg. Reborn, Inanna now wore the eye of death.

As queen of battle, she battered to submission; as moisture bearing light, she granted tender mercies. Her piercing glance could wither pretence, revealing what was real and true.

the beautiful
the known
