The Knickerbocker Ice Festival is returning to Rockland Lake State Park on January 24-25, 2026. This year, a new site-specific installation titled "Still Here" will be unveiled on the east side of the lake, nestled in a serene wooded area. This installation honors the enduring presence and resilience of the Ramapough Munsee Lenape women, whose history is deeply intertwined with the land surrounding Rockland Lake.
Timothy Englert, co-founder of the Knickerbocker Ice Festival, said, "One cannot explore the history of Rockland Lake without recognizing those who were there before us."
Designed to blend with the natural environment of Rockland Lake, Still Here focuses on the stories, myths and strength of the women of the Ramapough Munsee Lenape Nation. Still Here invites visitors to reflect on the rich cultural heritage of the Ramapough Munsee Lenape Nation and ongoing connection to this land. The installation will only be up for the two days of the ice festival.
The Knickerbocker Ice Festival offers a variety of activities beyond the installation. Huge ice sculptures celebrating local and national heritage are being made by some of the finest ice sculptors in the nation. Igloos from snow will be made right on site. There will also be campfires, food trucks and hot beverages. FREE admission. Parking $10. CLICK HERE for more information.
